Closing the Door for the First Time… I shut the door, fell on my knees and cried out to God for strength. I can’t remember how long I cried, and I wasn't sure where Travis would go. My parents told me that I really didn’t love my son, that I was a horrible mother. Even my best friend said, “How could you do that to him?” I knew God’s Word was true and that He would come through for me and my family. I wanted my son to know that God would be there for him. Travis needed to depend on God completely. But for now my tears fell - my heart was broken over my son, who still continued using his drugs. I would have to close the door on my son, but not my heart. Closing the Door, but not my Heart, is a compelling story of tough love and abounding grace that will stir both your heart and your faith to believe anything is possible with God. If you've ever had to hope against hope for your loved one, this book is the encouragement you need!

Excellent personal experience of a Mother's love and perseverance for her only child during the time of his self-destructive behavior. Her story will inspire and encourage you as she reveals the difficulties she endured and overcame because she would not give up on her son. How she used "tough love", tears, prayers and an overwhelming trust in God to see her son transformed; and is now teaching and leading Christian Recovery groups. A powerful testimony of her journey of faith to see her son's outcome as a wonderful, loving, responsible husband and father.
This is an amazing book of long suffering, tough love and walking by faith not by sight. It is a quick read that is very inspirational.
I will keep this book close at hand for those times I need to encourage myself to not give up but to persevere in my faith walk. I have
given this book to two family members. I highly recommended this book, it is a must read!
This book is a wonderful read for any parent who is hurting for a child on the path of self destruction drug addiction leads them down. There is only one answer for these children and that is the power of God. This book is uplifting and encouraging as the author shares her 14-year journey praying for her son and the faithfulness of God. Thank you for sharing your story Ms. Lineback
"Closing the Door, But Not My Heart" by Trenda Lineback is a non-fiction story based on the life experiences of a Mother (the Author) and what she went through trying to rescue her only Son from his drug addiction. This book is very heart-wrenching and inspirational and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs help dealing with substance abuse. Please read!
This book is a must read for someone who wants something real, something from the heart. The courage it took to write about the most intimate, trying times of her life. I feel as if I am right there with her in her darkest hour. I don’t want to give away what happens next, but truly a miracle. This book will inspire you to trust in the Lord. Jesus saved her life as well as her son’s. I highly recommend this book.
I've never gone through a drug challenge but I have a tremendous respect for people that go through the experience and survive. Some even come out better then people that have never had dependency issues.
This is a great story of struggle and triumph. I have a 16 year old son that is going to be reading this book. He is growing up in a world that is more and more difficult to navigate without getting pulled under.
Drugs and alcohol aren't the only things people become dependent on. Trenda has opened my eyes to many potential situations in the life of my kids. I know several people that this book will help.
This book was truly a small package, with a powerful punch. Trenda's painful, suspenseful, and inspiring account of a daily walk that leaned on Faith, brought things to the Faith, and deepened her Faith, now is extending that to others through her book. Emotions can be painful, but God made emotions, and works through them for good for those who love the Lord, and His masterful plan considers all factors, all within His perfect love, and His perfect timing.. This book is written over a timespan, not a story, but like a long trial one gets to appreciate dedication, hope and faith, and redemption as they read. One great thing, is many believe, or only want to have instant miracles, instant results. This book shows patience, long suffering, endurance, trust, and practical application of prayer and God's word, and the results of a blessing, a living one, not a monetary one, which so many expect today.
Like Job,, like Moses, Abraham waiting for a child, Abraham's faith and trust, like few displayed these days, Trenda's simple account, from a Mother doing her best, wanting the best for her son, is an honest look into a world many don't want to have, or to see, but with young adults and with faith all things are possible, we see both in this wonderful piece.. Best thing is, this can be read over a long weekend, and is a great one to read, give thanks for what we may take for granted in our lives, or give thanks the book was written because we can relate. This book shows a challenged single Mom's walk, in a graceful way she handled things not alone, but with other Christians, her Faith in Jesus, God, and the Word, then prayer, and walked into a promised land.
Love this book.
